My name is Roland Mechler. I’m the father of four athletic kids in their teens and early twenties. A few years back, I tried to find an athlete’s Bible devotional for my youngest son but couldn’t find anything. Sports has always been a key part of my life, my wife’s life and our children’s, and I really wanted to find a resource that would affirm my kids in their athletic endeavors, but more importantly show them how they can honor God as they pursue sports to the highest level possible.
The intent of this weekly blog is to feed Christian Athletes with spiritual “meat”. As athletes, you are often placed in incredibly difficult and public positions, and my intent in these blogs is to provide messages that can help you grow into the mature believers Christ desires you to be, not the infants that Paul talks about in 1 Corinthians 3: 1-9.
Some of my sweetest “God-times” come during my Sunday run in the woods, a Friday night soccer game, or on a sunny, crisp February morning racing on my X-Country skis. I feel the pleasure of the Lord during these times and as Christian Athletes I know you can relate as you pursue your sports of passion. May God bless you with the words written here, may the Holy Spirit ensure that these words are in accordance with His Word, and may we together as brothers and sisters in Christ honor God as we pursue sports with excellence. Let us run the race in such a way as to get the prize! (1 Corinthians 9:24).
God bless you for answering the call and writing these posts. They are such a blessing to everyone. I wanted to take time to encourage you and say how incredible it is that you want to teach your children integrity and to walk in the Lord. I pray that he will complete the good work that he began in you, your wife and your children until the day of Christs return. God Bless!
Thank you Rebekah. It is sometimes very quiet writing these devotionals and the odd time you wonder how many folks are actually reading them. Thanks for the encouragement today sister. God bless you too and may you also continue the good work God has started in you!
Good work Ronald. These are solid posts!

Thanks JP. I appreciate what FCA is doing as well. God bless you.
As a Christian Student Athlete it is very hard to keep it in that order. I’m on the bus to a track meet right now and so grateful I could find this encouragement. Thank you for reminding me that the only thing that is important is honoring God with my sport!!
I love this Valerie! Amen sister. As a Dad with kids your age and one competing in college, your note is of special significance to me. Thanks for taking the time to reach out. God bless you dear and continue honoring him, and he will honor you.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the encouragement brother!
